  • The 2nd edition of Cancer Nanotech, has been held in Paris Sofitel on 26 to 28 June, 2007. Advances in early detection, diagnostics, prognostics and the selection of therapeutic strategies are based on nanotechnology ability to multiplex, that is to detect a broad multiplicity of molecular signals and biomarkers in real time. Indeed, multifunctionality is the great advantage of nanovectors for the cancer specific delivery of therapeutic and imaging agents. Key researchers and industrials have described the new tools that are accelerating the discovering process in cancer diagnosis and treatment. They well addressed regulation and toxicity aspects. The conference agenda is still online.
  • Nano Medicine News is a weekly email service covering the european nano market and technologies. Developments in nanotechnology research cover all the health sectors. Each day, discoveries made at public laboratories and private institutions offer new possibilities for the cosmetic, diagnostic, biodevice, imaging, microscopy and drug industries. And because they can potentially lead to the creation of more efficacious treatments for serious diseases such as cancer, diabetes, AIDS or Alzheimer's, nanotechnologies hold enormous promise for millions of people. The generalization of nanotechnologies in the health sectors, as well as in numerous other industries (agro-food, chemistry, materials), also concerns the environment, sanitary safety, regulatory issues and public information.

  • A Marie Curie Research Training Network , called CARBIO ( Multifunctional Carbon Nanotubes for Biomedical Applications) has been established on the 1st of October 2006 (4 years duration). The CARBIO partners apply a multidisciplinary approach to exploit the potential of multi-functional CNT to act as magnetic nano-heaters, drug-carrier systems and sensors which allow a diagnostic and therapeutic usage on a cellular level. Studies of their interaction with biological environments (immune response, toxicity, interaction with the single cell) will provide the basis for applying the CNT for imaging (nanoparticles-based contrast agents), sensoring (nanoparticles-based diagnostics) and cancer treatment (hyperthermia, nanotechnology-based targeted drug delivery). http://www.carbio.eu/carbio

  • Carbon Nanotube in Biology, Medicine & Toxicology Symposium. The CNBMT Satellite Symposium (http://www.nanotubes-biomedtox.org/) will focus on the interaction of nanotubes with cells and tissues in vitro and in vivo , and explore specific applications of nanotubes in the biomedical field. Structure of the Meeting: This one-day Symposium will take place on Saturday, June 28th 2008, one day prior to the official opening of the “Ninth International Conference on the Science and Application of Nanotubes - NT08", and will take place in Montpellier, France, from June 29th to July 4th 2008 ( www.nt08.org ). The program will compose of invited lectures (30min), talks selected from submitted abstracts (15min), poster presentations and a round-table discussion at the end of the day addressing the critical questions in the development of carbon nanotubes in biology, medicine and toxicology. The CNBMT08 Satellite meeting will take place simultaneously with the other two NT08 satellite meetings, on focused topics of particular interest on: "Computational Challenges and Tools for Nanotubes - CCTN08" and "Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality of Nanotubes – MSNI08 " that will be happening in neighbouring rooms at the Le Corum Conference Center.
